The Volquetero

In August, Tourism and Culture Month, Puyo celebrates with one of its most characteristic flavors: the volquetero. At the parking lot of the future Parque de la Familia y las Nacionalidades, this Saturday, August 8, the giant volquetero ceviche was prepared, allowing more than 5,000 portions to be shared with citizens and tourists.

The volquetero was born in Puyo more than 50 years ago as a quick and hearty meal for workers and volquetero drivers who participated in the construction of the Obrero neighborhood. Over time, that preparation became part of the city’s gastronomic identity.

Today, that tradition is prepared in large quantities to celebrate these holidays. The day also featured a fair of entrepreneurship and gastronomy, along with musical shows that accompanied families and visitors in an afternoon dedicated to enjoying the flavors, culture, and tourism of Puyo.
